The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) has an exciting opportunity for a natural resource professional who wants to have an impact on the administration of Idaho's public water resources. This position is stationed in IDWR’s Southern Region office in Twin Falls, Idaho. Twin Falls is a regional commercial center with a vibrant downtown area and has access to public lands and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities.
There are two levels for this job opening: Water Resource Agent and Water Resource Agent, Senior. The Water Resource Agent job classification is the entry-level position in the Water Resource Agent, Senior career path. The Water Resource Agent position is used for recruitment and training purposes for the Water Resource Agent, Senior position.
Water Resource Agents gain professional experience with a variety of IDWR programs while playing a key role in accomplishing agency objectives for current and future water administration in Idaho. Through various types of on-the-job training, the Water Resource Agent will learn the duties of a Water Resource Agent, Senior and develop the knowledge and experience to work independently. Typically, the Water Resource Agent, Senior level requires two years of experience as a Water Resource Agent (or equivalent work experience). Upon completion of training, the employee will be paid at the Water Resource Agent, Senior level.
This Water Resource Agent / Water Resource Agent, Senior in the Southern Region office will process applications for new water rights, process applications for changes to existing water rights, and will conduct field examinations to document and quantify the extent of beneficial use developed under existing water right permits. The incumbent will assist Idaho water users in acquiring new water right permits, establishing licensed water rights, and making changes to existing water rights for various uses such as agricultural, commercial, and municipal. The incumbent will respond to inquiries from the public and maintain water right records to support the allocation of Idaho’s water resources.
Example of Duties:
· Interpret legal descriptions, survey plats, aerial imagery, and maps to locate and document points of diversion and places of use.
· Measure water quantities and flow rates for surface and ground water diversions. Document locations and components of water delivery systems. Determine the extent of water use developed.
· Review proposed changes to water rights. Evaluate the impact of the proposed change on other water users.
· Explain water laws and regulations associated with water appropriation, water distribution, and water district operation to attorneys, technical consultants, and the public.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
