Description
NOTE: All applicants must apply by 4:59 PM MST on the closing date.
Set against the rugged beauty of southern Idaho, Castle Rocks State Park and City of Rocks National Reserve offer a once-in-a-lifetime backdrop for your work. With nearly 9,000 years of human history and Idaho’s largest pinyon pine forest nestled against the towering 8,867-foot Graham Peak, Castle Rocks is a place where history, geology, and outdoor recreation converge. City of Rocks National Reserve, known for its gravity-defying granite spires and ancient monoliths dating back 2.5 billion years, is a world-class destination for climbers and adventurers alike, boasting nearly 700 climbing routes and nearly 30 miles of trails.
As a Ranger, your primary focus will be on compliance and ensuring park rules and regulations are followed to preserve the safety of our visitors and the integrity of these spectacular resources. You will patrol campsites, trails, and climbing areas, provide education to visitors, document incidents, and work closely with partner law enforcement agencies. In addition to compliance work, we are seeking a candidate with specialized skills to support the park's unique needs. You will also assist with a variety of general park operations, including visitor services, maintenance tasks, resource management, and day-to-day park functions.
Preferred candidates will have experience enforcing outdoor recreation rules, supporting climbing management and resource protection efforts, and contributing to visitor safety, search and rescue, and emergency medical services. The ideal candidate would have experience and knowledge pertinent to performing high-angle rescues, climbing at a free climbing level of 5.10 on the Yosemite Decimal Scale, and possess an EMT Basic certification. However, these are preferred qualifications, not requirements. If you are enthusiastic about compliance work and passionate about Idaho’s public lands, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet the preferred skills listed.
Housing is available for this position, making it a perfect opportunity for someone looking to fully immerse themselves in the incredible Castle Rocks and City of Rocks landscapes.
