Financial Specialist

The Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI), recognized nationally as one of the leading pension systems in the country, has an opening for a Financial Specialist. Reporting to the Portfolio Accounting Manager, this position will be responsible for advanced accounting and financial work including review and analysis of complex and diverse investment portfolio holdings and transactions.

A hybrid schedule (combination of in office and telecommute) may be available after the completion of the probationary period.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, analyze, and/or audit financial records and documents, accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, budgets, tax and payroll records, and other related documents
  • Prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations
  • Participate in or design, modify, and implement financial-related systems
  • Research and analyze data for accuracy, trends, and variances to ensure acceptable business practices and procedures have been followed and for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations
  • Use computer skills to analyze, research, and maintain financial data and develop financial documents/reports. 

Minimum Qualifications: You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.   • Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices - this is typically gained from at least four years of professional work experience as a staff accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR a degree in accounting OR a related degree that includes at least 12 semester credits in accounting, to include Intermediate Accounting I and II or equivalent.
