The Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health Coordinator will provide guidance and support in assisting local education agencies with resources in the fields of media art, visual art, theatre, dance, music, world languages, and interdisciplinary humanities.

This individual will support the efforts of local education agencies in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessments to the Idaho Content Standards to increase student achievement and success across all content areas. This individual must have a strong background in providing teachers with new and current methods of using the arts as a tool to promote academic success in all areas of study.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

· Serve as the subject matter expert for arts, humanities, PE and health content standards for all grade levels.

· Support local education agencies in the implementation of the Idaho Arts, Humanities, PE, and Health content standards.

· Provide guidance, policy interpretation, technical assistance, support, and training to local educational agency personnel implementing arts, humanities, PE, and health instructional programs, including current practices, evidenced-based research, and teaching strategies.

· Works with various entities at the federal, state and local levels to improve content programs to improve student achievement.

· Coordinates the implementation and administration of new initiatives or mandates designed to increase student achievement across content areas through the use of media art, visual art, theatre, dance, music, world languages, interdisciplinary humanities, PE, and health.

· Present information related to standards to a variety of audiences, including teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.

· Attends local, state, and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings, including serving as the Department representative on committees, study groups, councils, task forces, and related associations, as directed.

· Collaborate with representatives from teacher education preparation program at Idaho higher education institutions and alternative teacher preparation programs.

· Develops manuals, and other resources to support arts, humanities, PE, and health.

· Maintain, update and develop SDE content for the appropriate webpages.

· Format any public documents for ADA accessibility per SDE policies and procedures.

· Track and manage funds according to current project budgets.

· Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with SDE policies, procedures, and safety practices

· Keeps current on best practice in arts, humanities, PE, and health.

· Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

· Working knowledge of Idaho Arts and Humanities Content Standards demonstrated by three or more years of teaching Arts and/or Humanities.

· Knowledge of current research and understanding of effective instruction related to arts, humanities, PE and health content areas.

· Experience in curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, and professional development in the content area, especially the adopted Idaho Content Standards.

· Strong technology skills and experience using technology for teaching and learning.

· Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.

· Ability to travel periodically, both in-state and out-of-state.

· Strong communication skills; ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.

· Interpersonal skills and abilities to work effectively as a member of a team, promote team goals, collaborate and positively contribute to team climate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (extra consideration will be given)

· Experience in the content areas of PE and Health.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (with or without accommodation) 

· Dexterity to operate office tools and equipment;

· Ability to perform standard office administrative functions, including but not limited to: typing, filing, answering phones, processing documents, collating and preparing office materials as needed;

· Good vision to review hard copy and electronic documents; operate standard office equipment, including, but not limited to: computer, copier/scanner, multi-line phone system; navigate website resources; greet and direct patrons; identify safety concerns;

· Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time;

· Mental acuity to comprehend, communicate, monitor and ensure adequate program support;

· Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time;

· Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling;

· Occasional lifting may be required, frequently less than 5 lb., but may be up to 20 lb.

TRAVEL REQUIRED: 

This position requires up to 20% travel time, both in and out of state, for training, district support, meetings and conferences.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS INCLUDE: 

Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency. 

Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
