Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) employees make a difference in the lives of the citizens of Idaho. We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager 1 to join our operations team. You will impact the lives of customers and staff by maintaining functional, safe, and efficient facilities and you will work closely with a variety of leaders throughout the Department. This position is located in downtown Boise.

Special projects - may be required to respond to emergencies and to travel frequently with overnight stays.

This position is not eligible for telework.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Plan, schedule, administer or coordinate maintenance and construction projects, including office moves, facility maintenance and repairs, insurance, contract management, security, and policy development.
  • Utilize conventional construction management practices to prepare cost estimates, including project development and Division of Public Works liaison.
  • Define work to be done and specifications to be met, including solutions for multi-stakeholder projects, office moves, construction updates, and facilities updates.
  • Review contract bid prior to bid opening to determine compliance with plan specifications for facilities, and construction projects.
  • Compile information for preparation of budgets and programs and may participate in meetings with contractors, other agencies and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum/specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good knowledge of construction management principles and practices. Typically gained by formal training; OR at least two years' paid work experience in construction management.
  • Experience reading and interpreting contract plans, specifications, and documents; estimating and scheduling construction projects; applying engineering principals for construction applications and various aspects of project management. Typically gained by six months' related work experience OR completion of a six month internship with field work.

 SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some positions require good knowledge of building design practices, general construction methods and construction contract administration. Typically gained by formal training (vocation and/or trade school); OR at least three years' work experience reviewing plans, issuing bid documents, conducting routine field inspections and applying the engineering plans to the field applications.
  • State and local building codes including Uniform Building Code and electrical, plumbing, fire and life-safety codes. Typically gained by formal training covering these codes; OR at least three years of work experience as a contractor or developer, or related background, conducting inspections for commercial building compliance with codes and commercial building contracts.
