The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) has an exciting opportunity for a remote sensing professional who wants to impact Idaho water issues.
IDWR is filling a vacancy for a Remote Sensing Analyst Staff position in the Geospatial Technologies Section at our State Office in Boise. The person in this position will create maps of irrigation status using machine learning techniques, assist with producing satellite-based evapotranspiration products, and generate creative analyses to aid water management decision-making. There will also be occasional opportunities to assist with micrometeorological data collection fieldwork.
The position reports to the Remote Sensing Supervisor (GTS) and is part of a team that assists customers with Remote Sensing technologies at all levels. Duties are mainly in the office, with limited fieldwork and in-state travel.
The Geospatial Technologies Section at IDWR leverages capabilities in Geographic Information Science to provide innovative, accessible, and verifiable geospatial products to support IDWR’s mission. Example of Duties
· Applies broad knowledge and performs work that involves complex and advanced remote sensing and GIS principles and practices
· Evaluates results of remote sensing and GIS analysis and conducts consultation to the department regarding the application and implementation of techniques and methodologies
· Prepares technical reports documenting methodologies, scope, findings, and conclusions for publication in professional journals and/or presentation at professional conferences
· Keeps current on remote sensing satellite mission operations and data characteristics
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
· Operating, applying, and programming ESRI software products, and ERDAS image processing software products in a work environment
Good knowledge of:
· Remote sensing and GIS technology including theories, principles, analysis, data conversion, image interpretation, and digital image processing
· Remote sensing satellite mission operations and data characteristics
· Sampling design
· Cartographic principles
· Principles of database design and management
Some knowledge of:
· Computer programming languages
· Natural resource sciences
