Do you have personal or professional experience within or in support of programs serving youth and families and /or the child welfare system? The Department of Health and Welfare, Youth Safety & Permanency Division have an opening for a part time Research Analyst Principal in our downtown Boise location. This position is part time with no benefits and the schedule is based on business needs. The Child Welfare Research Analyst will support the Child Fatality Review Team with their reviews, logistics, reporting and requires:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Work both independently and as part of a team
• Perform work accurately and thoroughly to meet deadlines
• Data analysis background with strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, data, records collection and reporting

This position involves developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Gathers data and record from child welfare, coroners, law enforcement, medical providers, and other identified agencies related to child fatalities and near fatality reviews.
• Cultivates and maintains relationships with coroners, law enforcement, medical providers and other agency programs.
• Writes summary case synopsis for each case.
• Analyzes data, interprets trends, and results of the findings, and develops conclusions in coordination with Child Fatality Review Team.
• Creates info-graphic, reports and dashboards to provide information to the public and assist staff and/or review team in making timely, data-driven recommendations.
• Completes all data entry and reporting for National Center for Child Death Review.
• Compiles and disseminates findings in formats appropriate to various users and makes oral presentations of findings.
• Ensures that the data compiled and entered for Federal, State, and County inquiries and reports is collected and presented in an accurate, accessible, and timely manner.
• Identifies appropriate areas of potential areas of research or training based on needs assessment or direction from management and develops trainings related to data input, analysis, and application.
• Attends fatality reviews, trainings, conferences, and seminars to enrich data analysis techniques and remain updated on federal and state reporting requirements related to child fatality and near fatality reviews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. • Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of modeling and trend analysis and simulation techniques.  Typically gained by completion of at least two semesters of college level statistics in modeling, trend analysis and simulation techniques, AND at least two years of relevant practical experience and training in those areas OR at least three years of relevant practical experience and training in those areas OR Experience or a combination of coursework and experience that represents the knowledge level above.
• Experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects and presenting the results. Typically gained by at least one year of work experience planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects, and presenting the results. Experience should include independently identifying or defining the scope of the project; analyzing the problem requiring research and statistical analysis; developing the research project; and implementing and presenting the research results. 
• Experience using and interpreting output of a statistical analysis software package. Typically gained by at least one year of experience using and interpreting statistical output from a statistical analysis software package (e.g. SAS, SPSS, STATA, Number Cruncher, Excel, Minitab, etc.). 

Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

• Experience in preparing reports. Typically gained by at least six months of prior work with generating reports.
