The Southwest Idaho Treatment Center (SWITC) in Nampa is hiring a Developmental Specialist, Senior to make a positive impact supporting individuals who have an intellectual and/or developmental disability. This role requires compassion and dedication to serving some of the most vulnerable Idahoans and will be part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

SWITC is a 24-hour facility whose mission is to support individuals in crisis to become stable, develop skills, and to successfully transition back into the community. We employ over 100 professionals who work together to meet our mission for each client. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Conduct client assessments upon admission and then on an annual basis thereafter or as determined appropriate by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Select, administer, and interpret test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities in adults and/or children.
  • Select, administer and interpret a variety of standardized and informal assessments and test instruments designed to assess areas of need in individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Create, develop and adapt interdisciplinary prescriptive training programs, including data collection systems. to meet needs of clients with developmental disabilities including evaluation of progress toward treatment objectives.
  • Compile monthly programmatic data and complete monthly data reports.
  • Identify success, regression or stagnation in programmatic data and develop plans to address as necessary.
  • Create and develop programmatic materials for direct service staff and client use.
  • Train and support direct care staff on programmatic implementation.
  • Complete assigned sections of annual client person centered plan (PCP) document and participate in all PCP meetings for assigned clients.
  • Attend and participate in all interdisciplinary team meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

  • Requires a bachelor's or master's degree in special education, psychology, communication disorders, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other closely related degree AND specialized training in developmental disabilities OR one year of experience treating persons with developmental disabilities or a combination of special training and work experience as described.
  • Considerable knowledge of remediation and treatment programs for people with developmental disabilities or delays with mild to severe impairment and both mental and physical handicaps. Typically gained through completion of at least nine credit hours of closely related Master's level courses in at least three areas OR approximately two years of experience providing direct treatment services to the broad range of clients as described above. A combination of training and experience may also qualify.
  • Experience selecting, administering, and interpreting a variety of standardized and informal therapist developed assessments and test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities or delays. Typically gained by two years of experience performing these duties.
  • Experience developing and adapting interdisciplinary prescriptive treatment programs to meet needs of clients with developmental disabilities including evaluation of client progress toward treatment objectives. Typically gained by approximately two years of direct treatment experience including development of short-term objectives and long-term goals.
  • Experience planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions in at least two of the following service settings: facility based, home based, parent-partnership and community at large. Typically gained by approximately two years of experience performing these duties. 

Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

  • Experience and clinical training in mental health and developmental disabilities. Typically gained by at least five years of professional experience working with people who have IDD and mental health needs.
  • Experience and ability to work with complex systems. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience working on a team with families, providers, and community members.
  • Experience working independently while demonstrating organization and strong communication and writing skills. Typically gained by at least two years of professional experience where job duties included: providing trainings, speaking in groups, and responsibility for maintaining documentation.
  • Experience providing crisis services in correctional, hospital, institutional, and community-based settings of both voluntary and involuntary clients. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience in one of the listed settings.
