Summary:
The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is seeking a Financial Specialist, Sr. to join our dynamic team in Boise, Idaho. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring our agency’s financial operations and reporting meet the highest standards of integrity and excellence. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and prepare complex financial reports and documents such as financial statements and payroll analysis using the State’s LUMA enterprise reporting system.
  2. Incumbents use their seasoned professional background to assist in the development of budgets and prepare complex financial documents.
  3. Analyze technical financial problems and provide professional assistance and advice concerning their solutions to leadership and other stakeholders.
  4. Develop and maintain accounting systems, plan, and review financial operations, and handle difficult or sensitive financial matters.
  5. Research and analyze financial documents to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and accounting principles.
  6. Utilize current information technology to analyze, research, and maintain financial data, develop financial documents, and resolve problems.
  7. This position will be required to perform fiscal support functions such invoices, interagency payments, budget change requests.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Typically gained by at least four years of professional work experience as a staff accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR at least 12 semester credits in Accounting, to include Intermediate Accounting I and II or equivalent.
  2. Experience developing and preparing financial documents. Typically gained by at least one year of full time work experience.
  3. Experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze, and report on financial data. Typically gained by at least one year of work experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze and report on financial data as a regularly assigned job duty.
  4. Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action. Typically gained by at least one year of experience preparing routine and specialty analysis and recommending management action.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience researching and analyzing financial documents to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and accounting principles.
  2. Intermediate experience using IBM COGNOS Reporting and Dashboards or other database programs.
  3. Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel skills.
