The Idaho State Police (ISP) has a current opening for a POST Training Coordinator 1 with in Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in Meridian.

Incumbents in this position need a strong criminal justice foundation to deal effectively with issues uniquely related to officer performance and equipment. Incumbents must be well versed in the law enforcement profession and have knowledge of patrol procedures, detention procedures, correction officer procedures, acceptable administrative practices, and a strong ability to build relationships. Incumbents must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and must pass an extensive background investigation and polygraph test. Please review the Commissioned Qualifications | Idaho State Police.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and coordinate training needs with sheriffs, chiefs of police, and other law enforcement administrators and police training personnel;
  • Act as advisors to students in training;
  • Research and recommend new training materials/training aids;
  • Schedule POST Academy classes, instructors and facilities;
  • Ensure facilities and training equipment are properly maintained and repaired;
  • Participate in curriculum review meetings;
  • Instruct classes in areas of expertise;
  • Ensure training standards and effectiveness are maintained;
  • Prepare and administer written and demonstrative tests;
  • Evaluate course effectiveness;
  • Recommend and implement course changes as evaluations indicate;
  • Monitor instructors’ presentations and practical exercises;
  • Evaluate all phases of basic student officer training;
  • Prepare documentation of student performance;
  • Analyze examination results with students and provide study plans as needed;
  • Counsel students concerning career opportunities;
  • Ensure proper conduct of students during classes;
  • Assist students in meeting the requirements of POST certification standards;
  • Supervise day-to-day student activities;
  • Conduct inspections of personnel, weapons, dormitory and equipment and recommend corrective action;
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards related to the dormitory and training activities;
  • Investigate violations of POST Academy rules and standards.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      Experience:

      Good knowledge of:

      • Methods and theories of adult learning and effective application of that knowledge.

        Preferred Qualifications:

        • Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional methodologies.
        • Experience working with subject matter experts to design and develop learning goals, objectives, learning activities, assessment methods, lesson plans and supplemental student aids.
