QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must attach to their application individual responses addressing each requirement separately.

(1) Must be an enlisted member (E-6 and below) of the Idaho National Guard or willing to enlist. Provide your military grade, job title, AFSC and unit of assignment. If willing to enlist/join, please indicate your willingness and ability to enlist. If you are enlisted in another state National Guard, indicate your willingness to complete ITS.

(2) Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted state issued driver’s license (from any state). Provide your driver’s license number, issuing state, license expiration date, and the full name specified on the license. (Do not provide a copy of your driver’s license.) 

(3) Must have, or be eligible to obtain, and maintain a favorable T1 (NACI) Federal Background Investigation. If a selected candidate does not have a current favorable T1, as a condition of employment he/she must submit to the investigation process immediately upon hire/appointment. (At a minimum, a favorable suitability determination by the State Security Manager is required prior to appointment into this position.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Applicants must have 18-months of specialized experience performing related to the duties as specified below

(1) Skill and experience with mechanic calibration, working on engines or generators and making a variety of repairs. 

(2) Basic knowledge of electronics principals and troubleshooting methods for electronic devices. (3) Ability to operate machinery such as backhoes, front-end loaders, fork lifts and tactical vehicles up to 5-tons. 

(4) Ability to read and understand applicable technical manuals, publications and schematics. 

(5) Ability to perform operator and organizational level maintenance on various types of military and civilian equipment and target lifters.

JOB TITLE: RANGE MAINTENANCE WORKER

INTRODUCTION: This position is assigned to Range Facility Maintenance (RFM), Idaho Training Center (ITC), Orchard Range (OR), Idaho Army National Guard (IDARNG), functioning within the State of Idaho – Military Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform as a member of a maintenance team operating and maintaining a remote target system. The incumbent performs preventive maintenance, repairs and services as necessary to facilitate the safe and effective training of personnel at the ITC-OR.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Performs range maintenance duties on a number of different types of military gunnery ranges to include: Multi-Purpose Range Complex (MPRC), Digital Multi-Purpose Range Complex (DMPRC), Digital Air-Ground Integration Range (DAGIR), Multi-Purpose Tank Ranges (MPTR), Combat Pistol Qualification Course (CPQC), Automated Record Fire (ARF) range, Heavy Sniper Range and Multi-Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) range. 

2. Performs organizational, direct, general, and field/shop level support maintenance on the Enhanced-Remoted Target System (E-RETS) target lifters and Infantry Target Mechanism (ITM). Performs the same level support maintenance on the Meggitt/Caswell remote radio frequency target lifters. These include the Stationary Armor Target (SAT), Moving Armor Target (MAT), Stationary Infantry Target (SIT), and Moving Infantry Target (MIT). Emplaces, tests and loads Battle Effects Simulators (BES). Tests, charges and installs 12/24-volt batteries used in the operation of range target mechanisms. Provides technical advice and assistance to lower graded employees in the performance of assigned duties. 

3. Inspects, tests, services, adjusts, aligns, calibrates, installs, repairs, replaces, reconditions, troubleshoots, field tests and/or shop tests target mechanisms and hit sensor devices. Uses shop bench test mock-ups to test hydraulic and electrical/electronic meters, load banks, oscilloscope, logic probe, torque wrenches and pressure / compression gauges. Replaces and repairs defective hardware and parts such as relays, carburetor components (i.e., jets, float assemblies) switches, assemblies, cables, target elevating mechanisms, choke assemblies, hydraulic cylinders, gaskets, piping, valves, pumps, junction boxes, solenoids, electric motors, rectifiers, diodes, transformers, rheostats, transistors, capacitors, thermal panels and other components. 

4. Fabricates and repairs electrical power/data cables, hit sensor cable assemblies, hard-wire control power distribution/switch devices. Performs routine welding repairs to metal mechanical target mounting devices. Uses oxygen-acetylene welder to join metal surfaces to repair live-fire damage. Employs, services and repairs 3Kw Honda generators. 

5. Loads and unloads explosive Battle Effects Simulator devices. Performs Pre-Fire and Post-Fire maintenance by conducting fabrications and repairs to plastic, metal, wooden, fiberglass and cardboard targets following range gunnery exercises. 

6. Operates computer keyboard console to activate target mechanisms and to perform maintenance. Operates two-way radio equipment and tactical vehicles up to 5-ton trucks to transport self, materials and others to worksites; operates construction equipment, such as backhoe’s front-end loaders and forklifts. Performs operator level PMCS on vehicles and equipment and maintains vehicle and equipment dispatches. 

7. Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, oil subsystems of four stroke engines / generators. Makes the appropriate repairs, overhaul, or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures. Reassembles engines and other systems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in equipment as necessary. May install pistons, sleeves, rings, bearings, rods, crankshafts, timing gears, and rocker arms. 

8. Supports the organizational Safety and Occupational Health program. 

9. Promotes a respectful workplace that complies with policies of the Adjutant General. Observes and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies and serves as a role model for the Whistleblower Protection Program, EEO, security and workplace safety practices, policies and regulations at all times. Maintains a safe and drug/alcohol free workplace. 

10. Performs other related duties and projects as necessary or assigned. 

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: Works under general supervision of the Range Maintenance Team Supervisor, who provides work assignments and directs daily activities. Works in accordance with available drawings, technical orders or specifications. Acts independently or in a two-person team in the performance of day-to-day duties. Exercises considerable judgment regarding the methods and procedures for completing assignments. Responsible for knowing and judging the impact of repairs and for making further test and alignment to ensure the completed repairs are aligned and functioning properly. Supervisor is available to resolve unusual problems. Work is subject to spot checks for timeliness, adherence to range safety and the readiness status of target equipment and range operations.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: The incumbent’s contacts include military, civilian, federal technician and state employee personnel of the Idaho National Guard (IDNG)/Idaho Military Division (IMD) and the various activities visiting the Idaho Training Center, Orchard Range (ITC-OR).

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Requires standing and working for prolonged times on concrete floors and on ranges in rough and uneven terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, explosives, and wildlife to include snakes, spiders and badgers. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remote-controlled target devices. Physical effort requires frequent lifting, positioning, and carrying of target mechanisms, tools, and equipment weighing up to 105 pounds; items weighing in excess of 105 pounds normally involve more than one person. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs of a control tower.
