Financial Specialist, Senior

The Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI), recognized nationally as one of the leading pension systems in the country, has an opening for a Financial Specialist, Senior. Reporting to the Portfolio Accounting Manager, this position will be responsible for portfolio accounting, advanced accounting and financial work including review and analysis of complex and diverse investment portfolio holdings and transactions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and making complex journal entries, allocation of costs across several funds impacting their funding status, assisting in or independently researching and analyzing underlying data for errors and correcting them, and creating published financial statements. 
  • Collaborate with executive management in day-to-day operations of the fiscal and investment departments. 
  • Modifying and maintaining the accounting system to ensure its integrity and reliability for PERSI reporting. 
  • Assists or takes a lead role in the design, development, testing and implementation of new accounting processes. 
  • Evaluates and uses quantitative software to assist in risk and portfolio management functions. 
  • Provide quantitative support for decisions regarding asset allocation and risk management. 
  • Build and update models for research and statistical analysis of performance attribution, studies of strategies and data sets in support of asset allocation strategies. 
  • Evaluate and initiate investment-based cash flows to ensure appropriate and accurate timing. 
  • Prepare and review accounting schedules and documents with supporting information for the annual audit. 
  • Perform and analyze a daily risk review, net asset value (NAV) report, daily cash and investment fund reconciliations. 
  • Handle supporting schedules and general ledgers and check trial balances. 
  • Handle routine accounting activities on partnerships and investments. 
  • Analyze and forecast cash projections for the successful completion of capital calls, invoices, and plan participant payout. 
  • Initiate investment capital calls, wire transfers, and ensure proper timing of transfer dates and settlement dates. 
  • Analyze and monitor cost versus market value calculations and correct omissions and errors with investment managers. 
  • Prepare customer reports and maintain supporting documentation. 
  • Supports the updating of accounting division policies and procedures. 
  • Develops technical communications on a wide-range of financial reporting issues including accounting policies, accounting-based educational publications and responses to inquiries received from stakeholders. 
  • Prepares essential reports and schedules for the annual audit and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Minimum Qualifications (must be clearly reflected in your resume):

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. 

  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Typically gained by at least four years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR an Associate's degree in accounting AND at least two years of professional work experience as an accountant or equivalent.
  • Experience developing and preparing financial documents. Typically gained by at least one year of full-time work experience.
  • Experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze, and report on financial data. Typically gained by at least one year of work experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze and report on financial data as a regularly assigned job duty. (Experience tracking personal finances and using home financial software would not qualify.) Due to the rapidly changing information systems, your experience must be within the last five years.
  • Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action. Typically gained by at least one year of full-time work experience.
