The mission of the Idaho Industrial Commission is to fairly administer the

Idaho Workers' Compensation Law.


The Benefits Administration Senior Claims Data Specialist will work in the Claims and Benefits Department of the agency. The incumbent will evaluate claim records to determine whether workers' compensation benefits are paid accurately, process electronic claim filings, and perform a variety of calculations while auditing claim records. The incumbent must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, and possess effective learning skills. The incumbent will also require the ability to resolve complex issues, interpret data, and handle multiple assignments. The incumbent will become an expert in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Claims, capable of assisting claim reporters in proper filing, report sequencing, and editing of electronic filings. The incumbent must have strong verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize work tasks and meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. The position requires the ability to work independently and responsibly.

Example of Duties:

  • Gather information, issue correspondence, and make decisions
  • Utilize independent judgment and discretion when completing assignments 
  • Audit complex benefit calculations of Subsequent Reports of Injury (SROI) and Final Report transactions
  • Examine insurer claim files to evaluate performance
  • Resolve higher level claims issues
  • Use analytical software to provide data to EDI trading partners
  • Communicate EDI transaction requirements to trading partners

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: 

  • Utilizing a database to retrieve and process data
  • Utilizing various resources to resolve problems
  • Reviewing technical materials and making determinations
  • Making independent decisions using best judgement
  • Performing intermediate level math calculations 
  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments
  • Compiling information in a report format using database software
  • Certified Idaho Workers' Compensation Specialist (CIWCS): Certified as an Idaho Workers' Compensation Specialist or willing to certify within six (6) months of hire
  • Good knowledge of rules of effective business English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
