The Idaho State Tax Commission is recruiting for two Tax Auditor 1 positions in the Sales Tax and Multistate Units in Boise. Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations. The Audit team is our first line of defense in protecting Idaho citizens from very sophisticated fraudsters trying to extract money from taxpayers. We pride ourselves in quality work, professionalism and customer service. Please read below to learn more about these amazing positions.
Sales Tax
Sales tax (STA) auditors travel to taxpayers’ offices and work at the Commission looking at detailed and sampled business records related to sales/purchase transactions to verify that the proper amount of tax has been remitted to the state. Taxpayers range from large corporations to small sole proprietorships. Our auditors travel to locations all over the United States to perform their work. The bureau also has two desk audit units. One reviews all public works contracts and provides a tax clearance letters to the contractor and the other reviews all sales tax refund requests.
Multistate Tax
Multistate tax auditors deal with issues including determining if “unitary relationships” exist between related corporations, whether income should be classified as business income subject to apportionment, and other state adjustments. These audits may take auditors to corporate headquarters all over the United States.
