Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is seeking an IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer IV, located within the Information Technology department of IDOC at the Central Office in Boise, Idaho. This is a senior level position. At this level, incumbents are recognized as experts within their field. As such, incumbents provide leadership in strategic technology planning and in the design, enhancement, implementation, and consultation on complex enterprise network, server, or storage infrastructure; translate business requirements into business systems or networks; manage the development and implementation of complex systems, storage or networking infrastructure including systems administration, installation, and maintenance; perform related work. 

NOTE: Experience to qualify for this position must have been obtained within the last five (5) years. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and builds multiple environments which includes database, network, web, storage, and cache servers. 
  • Deploys quarterly release builds; installs patches and hot fixes as needed. 
  • SQL Server database administration. 
  • Conducts complete diagnosis of most technology problems, factoring in an understanding of the technical architecture. 
  • Participates in design and contributes to technical insights and ideas. 
  • Anticipates implementation obstacles and develops plans to address them. 
  • Analyzes cross-technology and cross-platform issues. 
  • Provides input into the technology plan for the organization and ensures that plans are integrated effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure. 
  • May provide consulting services to project teams on areas of expertise. 
  • Solves technical problems that may have never been encountered previously in the organization. 
  • Provides recommendations for investment in new products and technology solutions, supported by appropriate ROI, total cost of ownership, and/or cost benefit analyses. 
  • May have on-going leadership responsibility for a small IT team.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities. Typically gained by an associate degree or equivalent college level/vocational-tech coursework directly related to current information technology OR at least two years of work experience in information technology. Education and experience must be within the last five years. 
  • Experience planning, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting more than one element of architectural/infrastructure systems (e.g., network, server, or storage systems). Typically gained by at least three years of full-time work experience where installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, server or storage systems was part of your primary job responsibilities. 
  • Experience resolving network or server problems. Typically gained by at least two years of full-time work experience (within the last five years) where resolving network or server problems were part of their primary responsibilities. 
  • Experience working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment. Typically gained by at least two years of full-time work experience interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment as a primary responsibility of the job. 
  • Experience as a project leader and team member on a multi-phase project. Typically gained by work experience as an active team member in at least one major project of six months duration or longer. Experience must be within the last two years. 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong background in back-end server management, including database, network, web, and storage servers.

This job family designs, develops, and applies technical expertise that support the organization's technical infrastructure and technology offerings. This includes systems, networks, servers, and other related technologies. Jobs in this family are responsible for designing, developing, testing, installing, and/or deploying technologies, and work typically includes contingency planning, configuration management, direct maintenance, and problem resolution. Incumbents in this classification are considered experts in one or more of the respective disciplines (network, server, or storage). 

Hiring Information:

  • This is not a remote position. Normal working hours are M-F, 8am-5pm, with occasional after-hours expectations during code deployment.
  • IDOC requires a background investigation. In addition, federal law prohibits individuals who have previously been convicted of a felony from working in the IT department of any state agency.
  • You must be eligible to work in the US; IDOC cannot sponsor work visa candidates.
