IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer III (VoIP Administrator)

Summary:

At the Idaho State Police IT Department, we are enhancing our law enforcement and public safety missions through advanced technology. In our Meridian office, we're excited to offer a position for an IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer III, focused on VoIP administration. This role is integral to bolstering our communication infrastructure, ensuring reliable and efficient voice communication.

This position entails managing our VoIP infrastructure's development, implementation, and maintenance. As a specialist in VoIP technology, you will handle installations, troubleshooting, and provide backup support for server administration. Your role is crucial in maintaining seamless communication and supporting IT infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in VoIP technologies within complex network environments. Your contribution will be key to improving our communication systems and, in turn, supporting the critical operations of the Idaho State Police.  Example of duties: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced VoIP infrastructure to support state-wide law enforcement operations.

  • Administer VoIP systems, including configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization for high-quality communication.
  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of the enterprise network, server, and storage infrastructure with a focus on VoIP integration.
  • Conduct thorough diagnostics of technical issues across VoIP and related technologies, anticipating and addressing implementation challenges.
  • Participate in agency technology planning, ensuring VoIP strategies align effectively with the overall technical infrastructure.
  • Provide expert consulting services on VoIP technologies.
  • Serve as a backup to server administrators, aiding in system maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring operational continuity.
  • Analyze cross-technology and cross-platform issues, offering solutions and improvements in the VoIP domain.
  • Develop plans to address potential obstacles in implementing VoIP systems and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of VoIP communications in line with agency standards and requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities.
  • Typically gained by a bachelor's degree directly related to information technology OR at least four years of work experience in information technology. Education and experience must be within the last five years.
  • Experience planning, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting network, server, or storage systems. 
  • Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience where planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, server or storage systems was part of the primary job responsibilities. Experience must be within the last five years.
  • Experience resolving network or server problems.
  • Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience (within the last five years) where resolving network or server problems was part of the primary responsibilities.
  • Experience working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment. 
  • Typically gained by at least four years of full-time work experience where interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment was part of the primary responsibilities. Experience must be within the last five years.
  • Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting network, server, or storage systems.
  • Typically gained by at least four years of experience as a lead or Subject Matter Expert in implementing or supporting network, server, or storage systems. Experience must be within the last five years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and protocols relevant to VoIP services.
  • Experience in high-availability server environments and disaster recovery planning, particularly as it pertains to VoIP systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing architectures and their application in enhancing VoIP services.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively on IT projects, particularly those involving VoIP and server technologies.
