The Idaho State Tax Commission has an opportunity for a Program Specialist Technician (construction based taxes) in the Sales Tax Audit (STA) unit in Boise. Join the Idaho State Tax Commission where you will be trained and supported. Salary analysis will be conducted for the chosen candidate. 

This position is located at the Boise Office in the Chinden Campus located at 11321 West Chinden Blvd, Building 2.  
 Summary:

To provide technical expertise in the operation of an agency program; perform related work.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, review, analyze, and perform mini-audit/cases on public works, private/commercial, and federal project reports for construction projects in Idaho to ensure compliance with sales and use tax and withholding tax laws enforced by the Idaho State Tax Commission
  • Educate in-state and out-of-state contractors as well as other state and local government agencies by interpreting, explaining, and applying Idaho sales/use tax laws and rules and withholding tax information as they relate to specific construction situations.
  • Determine when a tax liability exists and then prepare appropriate workpapers, audit correspondence, billing letters and NODD's.
  • Make decisions concerning tax liability in the application of Idaho laws.
  • Prepare and mail billing letters and issue tax releases independently and without review of the supervisor.
  • Determine which construction projects to select for review and which contractors and subcontractors to contact for information.
  • Provide training to contractors, contractor’s associations, and other state agencies regarding the tax laws relating to contractors working in Idaho.
