Do you enjoy working outdoors? The Southwest Idaho Treatment Center (SWITC) in Nampa has an opening for a Landscape Technician, Senior. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (the start and end may vary depending on the seasons/temperature). May work an occasional off hour shift or weekend. This is a temporary, seasonal position.

 Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.  

Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Responsible for landscaping and grounds maintenance.
  • May train and assign work to subordinates.
  • May design and implement beds and borders including recommendations for new planting, replanting and reorganizing existing plans of lawn areas, shrubbery, shade and ornamental trees and flower beds.
  • Inspect plants, trees and shrubs for insect pests or disease and take necessary measures for eradication.
  • Maintain records and files and submit reports as required.
  • May develop snow removal plans.
  • Work in all types of weather conditions outside.
  • Operate and maintain all types of grounds machinery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position.   • Willing and physically able to lift and carry items weighing approximately 50 lbs., bend, stoop and shovel in all types of weather.
  • Six months of experience working for Idaho State government performing the duties of a Landscape Technician (or Grounds Maintenance Worker); OR one year experience in landscaping and general grounds maintenance work OR completion of a recognized course of study in landscape gardening or landscape design such as a formal vocational training program or a two-year college course in ornamental horticulture or landscape work.
  • Eligible to drive a state vehicle.
