Program Director | Fire Service Training

Pay range: $30.00 - $35.00 (annualized at $62,400 - $72,800)

Depending on experience - Plus competitive benefits

Agency Information: The Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) provides leadership and coordination for programs in career technical education (CTE) across the state of Idaho. With a customer-service focus, the Division leads Idaho's efforts to prepare youth and adults for high-skill, in-demand careers.

Summary: The Program Director for Fire Service Training will provide leadership, vision, and guidance for administering Idaho's fire service training. This position leads the fire service training (FST) team to provide statewide coordination of fire training for career and volunteer firefighters, support for postsecondary fire training programs, ensures compliance with state and federal laws and accreditation entities. The program director will have familiarity with fire service training state and federal reporting. Some statewide travel is required.

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provide oversight of statewide fire service training in Idaho including serving as Idaho's representative for accreditation.
      • Ensure the FST team provides high-quality fire service training with the goal of striving for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as liaison among departments, agencies, and educational entities.
  • Lead a team of qualified instructors to accomplish training goals.
      • Collaborate with fire service training stakeholders throughout the state of Idaho to ensure high-quality training is available for volunteers, paid firefighters, and students.
  • Develop and execute strategic plan for ensuring meeting the diverse needs of the six regional areas of Idaho.

Administration

  • Implement a confidential, customer-friendly student and training record management system.
  • Supervise fire service training staff.
  • Prepare fiscal, narrative, and evaluative reports on budget and project progress.
  • Foster a team-oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies.
  • Ensure successful maintenance of accreditation for certification.
  • Administer the process of applying for, securing, and executing federal grants.
  • Manage additional special projects, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience or a combination thereof.
  • Four years of experience as a facilitator of training and instruction related to fire and/or emergency services.
  • Firefighter I & II Certifications or equivalent
  • Fire Instructor Certification or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience and education) related to fire service and/or administration
  • Fire Officer Certification
  • Executive Fire Officer Leadership program completion
  • Driver Operator Certification
  • Commercial Driver's License
  • Experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance

Special Notification: This position is exempt from the rules of classified service under the provisions of Section 67-5303, Idaho Code. This position is educational professional exempt from overtime. The successful applicant will be required to pass a background check.

Benefits: Per current policy, this position earns 7.38 hours of vacation leave per pay period, and 3.70 hours of sick leave per pay period.
