The Idaho Department of Labor (IDOL) has an exciting department promotional opportunity for a full-time Supervisor, Labor. This position will supervise, as well as provide services in our Post Falls office.

Example of Duties

  • Supervises, plans and directs unit activities.
  • Recommends unit action plans, goals, and staff.
  • Provides input in the development of objectives and plans.
  • Interprets program laws and regulations and provides technical assistance to staff.
  • Develops operating policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates quantity and quality of service provided.
  • Monitors compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Identifies problem areas and prepares and implements corrective action plans.
  • Authorizes and monitors program expenditures.
  • Selects staff, assigns work, and evaluates performance.
  • Provides or recommends staff training.
  • Resolves problems with clients, employers, and staff.
  • Coordinates program operations with state and local agencies and organizations.
  • Makes presentations to employer groups, labor and civic organizations, and schools to promote department services and programs.
  • Takes work applications and job orders.
  • Provides occupational guidance.
  • Enrolls applicants in employability development programs.
  • Develops job openings and recruits applicants for employers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

*Minimum Qualifications: You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please attach a resume, work history and references to your application. Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained through completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices OR completion of a college course covering supervisory practices OR lead work experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a minimum of 3 months).

Good knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies. Typically gained by six months (within the last five years) reviewing Technical Assistance guides, program directives, grant guidelines, employment services manuals (or other comparable law, regulatory or policy documents) and presenting or providing this information in a clear, understandable manner either internally (to staff) or externally to community partners. Examples: Providing guidance on grant administration; Employer or partner workshops (covering Unemployment Insurance or other information); Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) orientations, Employment Laws for employers, etc.

Experience:

  • Working on a community or work-related project.  Typically gained by working with partner agencies to coordinate services; working on process/service delivery improvements, program changes/ implementations. The project must have contained the following components: • planning and implementation of project or program • delegating • identifying and managing required resources (e.g. staffing, materials, time) • analyzing progress and recommending corrective action • preparing and writing reports on progress, outcomes, etc.
  • Developing knowledge, skills, and abilities of individuals. Typically gained by providing training in their area(s) of expertise or participating on process improvement teams and provide guidance/training on new processes. Individual may also serve as a trainer for newly assigned staff.
