Employer Compliance Investigator

The mission of the Idaho Industrial Commission is to fairly administer the Idaho Workers' Compensation Law.

The Idaho Industrial Commission is currently recruiting an Employer Compliance Investigator to service the Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston area. The primary location for this position may be located in either our Coeur d’Alene or Lewiston field office. The successful candidate will split time between the two offices and will be required to travel to either the CDA or Lewiston office with overnight stays. A state vehicle will be provided.

This position conducts investigations of employers who may not be in compliance with the insurance requirements of the Idaho Worker’s Compensation Laws. This position also conducts educational outreach through in person presentations.

Example of Duties:

  • Interprets and applies the Worker’s Compensation Law, rules and regulations of the Industrial Commission, and Supreme Court decisions to determine employer exemption or liability for workers compensation insurance.
  • Conduct investigations of employers who may not be in compliance with the insurance requirement of the Worker’s Compensation Law.
  • Determines through questioning an observation that workers are employed by the business.
  • Advises employers of liability for coverage and monetary fines for noncompliance.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed reports of investigative contacts.
  • Monitors and verifies employers have obtained coverage and advises non-insured employers of pending legal action if coverage is not obtained within deadline.
  • Conducts investigations to determine if court-ordered injunction has been violated and to confirm status of business.
  • May testify in civil and criminal hearings.
  • May travel up to 60% of the time within an assigned service area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of:

  • Investigative and research methods and documentation procedures
  • Negotiation techniques.

Experience:

  • Planning and conducting investigations of complaints of legal violations and preparing reports with recommendations
  • Interpreting and applying laws and regulations and explaining them to others
  • Conducting and documenting fact-finding interviews
  • Using word processing software

Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting investigations.
  • Experience conducting in person on-on-one fact finding interviews
  • Experience documenting findings in well written reports
  • Public speaking experience explaining rules and regulations
  • Caseload management experience
