The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Division of Welfare is currently recruiting for Self-Reliance Supervisors in the Child Support Services program. The schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with holidays off. Successful candidates will need to plan to work in the office in Boise. These positions provide accountability and support to staff working in high volume, high stress work environments assisting customers for various services related to child support obligations. The Child Support Services program works with families via telephone to establish paternity for their children, works with attorneys to get child support orders, if needed, or identifies if orders already exist. They keep financial records of child support obligations, and ensure compliance with court orders by collecting and enforcing child support debts.

This position is not eligible for telework.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff in achieving performance goals and expectations. 
  • Monitors work volume and makes adjustments in assignments to meet customer needs. 
  • Works closely with program manager in program administration. 
  • Works collaboratively with other supervisors in the unit. 
  • Provides program consultation to staff and customers. 
  • Recommends automated system modifications. 
  • Recommends budget and staffing needs, coordinates unit activities with other units and agencies. 
  • Monitors calls, actions and work volume; advises and assists staff. 
  • Ensures established metrics are achieved within team. 
  • Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with corrective action methods. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

  • Good knowledge of applying federal and state rules and regulations to specific situations to determine the next course of action.Typically gained by one year of experience as a Self-Reliance Specialist, or equivalent (e.g., Welfare Eligibility Examiner or Public Assistance Eligibility Examiner), 

  • Good knowledge of current welfare program and their associated automated data processing systems.Typically gained by one year of experience with current welfare programs and their associated data processing systems.

  • Experience as a Self-Reliance Specialist, or the equivalent providing technical assistance to staff.Typically gained by at least one year experience as a self-reliance specialist or equivalent providing technical assistance, coaching, and/or mentoring staff.

  • Supervisory experience, or the equivalent educational experience, demonstrating the ability to manage work, people and performance.Typically gained by a minimum of one year of supervisory experience which could have included the following tasks: providing work assignments, direction and monitoring of staff, responsibility for hiring employees, preparing performance evaluations and managing performance, handling grievances and/or participating in problem solving procedures; OR completion of two classes or seminars (of more than one day) specifically covering supervisory practices; OR completion of a college course covering supervisory practices and at least six months of work experience that involved providing work assignments, direction and monitoring of staff, responsibility for hiring employees, preparing performance evaluations and managing performance, handling grievances and/or participating in problem solving procedures.
