If this sounds like a good fit for you, the Division of Child, Youth, and Family Services is seeking applicants for a Training Specialist position to support training programs within Youth Safety and Permanency. The training specialist will work closely with the training and development manager and will develop training and curriculum, provide technical program assistance, and post-implementation support. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative group; strong communication skills are key. Technical writing and verbal presentation experience are required for the training specialist position. This position if located in the department's administrative office in beautiful downtown Boise, Idaho.

This position may be eligible for telework after successful completion of probation and necessary training. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.

 EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Determines requirements for specialized training courses.
  • Researches and assesses training needs for division programs and initiatives within Youth Safety and Permanency.
  • Establishes training programs' objectives and designs appropriate courses.
  • Develops training material such as text, video, student guides, training manuals, evaluation rubrics, slides, and other materials in coordination with the Training and Development Manager and subject matter experts and develops course outlines and lesson plans.
  • Presents training when needed.
  • May develop computer-assisted training courses or produce video instructional courses.
  • Oversees administrative tasks with the learning management system
  • Coordinates scheduling of training courses with contracted embedded trainers.
  • Works in partnership with EWU to develop training communications to employees and administrative tasks in Sharepoint.
  • Assist with training quality assurance efforts by auditing and evaluating training courses with our contracted partner EWU in field offices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

  • Good knowledge of training theory.  Typically gained by successful completion of college degree core requirements (to include 400 level coursework) in the area of instructional technology or a very closely aligned program providing a strong theory base in the field of training and development; OR approximately two years of experience actually providing training AND completion of approximately 40 hours of trainer development coursework or workshops covering the specifics of trainer development including: adult learning theory; training needs assessment; development of training objectives; course or curriculum design; presentation skills and training evaluation techniques.
  • Experience performing needs assessments, developing training objectives, designing and developing coursework and evaluating the training. Typically gained by demonstrating experience developing more than a singular type of training.
  • Experience presenting training to adult groups in structured learning situations.  Typically gained by completion of core requirements for a degree in instructional technology or its equivalent AND a minimum of 40 hours of instruction presenting training to adults; OR through actual experience presenting approximately 100 hours or more of training to adult (18 years plus) groups in structured learning situations.
  • Experience using a variety of training methods. Typically gained by experience using at least THREE different training methods or strategies such as role play or lecture in the instructional environment. 

Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

  • Experience designing, testing, and launching e-learning modules and instructor-led training. Typically gained by completion of relevant college coursework or at least one-year related work experience.
  • Experience in developing and managing SharePoint or similar system. Typically gained by completion of relevant college coursework or at least two years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Child Welfare business and or systems. Typically gained by at least two years’ experience in Child Welfare or related experience supporting children or other social services.
  • Proficiency with e-learning tools such as Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, and experience with Learning Management Systems. Typically gained by completion of relevant college coursework or at least two years related work experience.
