The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse Manager to oversee regional registered nurses in the Bureau of Long-Term Care located at our Caldwell office. We are seeking a registered nurse who has a knack for navigating the intersection between clinical judgment and quality assurance, including performance management and oversight. The ideal candidate will have experience using data to inform decision-making and be able to translate data to performance and vice versa in the context of clinically oriented assessments and services. The position requires excellent managerial and communication skills to oversee seven individual teams statewide. These teams are responsible for conducting functional assessments in the field for various Medicaid programs and services that support individuals with disabilities and functional limitations. A successful candidate will possess sharp critical thinking skills and be expected and empowered to make decisions at that level of the organization when appropriate.

This position may be eligible for telework after successful completion of probation and necessary training. Approval to telecommute is not guaranteed and subject to termination at any time.

 EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Provide oversight for Nurse Reviewers in the region and including recruitment of staff, direction and support of performance and development objectives. Manager will also manage their own case load according to the same standards and requirements expected by the Bureau of Long Term Care.
  • Support performance management of Bureau of Long Term Care assessments and clinically-oriented activities, enhancing and supporting statewide consistency and process improvements.
  • Ensure program quality, integrity and compliance with state and federal program requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries and support regional teams and regional nurse managers with stakeholder escalations when needed.
  • Work closely with the Bureau of Long-Term Care Program Managers over Quality Assurance and Technical Operations to ensure team cohesiveness in meeting day-to-day bureau obligations and support a culture of continuous improvement.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.   • Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418. For licensure information, please contact the Idaho Board of Nursing at http://ib.idaho.gov or call (208) 577-2476.
  • Good knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by at least one year of supervisory experience that required providing work assignment, and direction and monitoring of staff with responsibility (or significant input) into the hiring of employees, preparing performance evaluations, and handling problem-solving procedures OR completion of courses or seminars (20 hours) that included all the essential elements of management.
  • Experience assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies and procedures and recommending appropriate actions. Typically gained by approximately six months' experience in a supervisory role ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, licensure regulations or care standards. This may include chart audits, data collection, policy and procedure review, committee participation and/or infection control activities. 


Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, older adults, or individuals with functional limitations. Typically gained by direct service in a clinical or social work capacity.
