Summary:
The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting an Employee Engagement Manager. The Employee Engagement Manager will serve as a member of IDOC’s Strategic Initiatives team and work out of IDOC’s Central Office in Boise. The incumbent will frequently visit IDOC worksites to coach supervisors on fostering staff relationships, engage with employees to evaluate job satisfaction throughout the agency, and oversee initiatives aimed at improving employee retention.
Responsibilities:
- Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative retention data, identify key indicators leading to employee engagement through stay interviews and exit surveys, and initiate & manage large-scale projects that problem-solve issues leading to employee turnover.
- Provide 1:1 coaching with supervisors to build stronger working relationships that foster trust, respect, and rapport.
- Support newly hired staff as they complete milestones through the onboarding process.
- Build employee relationships across IDOC by visiting all worksites, New Employee Orientation, and academies.
- Manage the PURPOSE in Action initiative by coordinating training events and an annual survey, co-developing and tracking site action plans, overseeing the statewide facilitator & ambassador programs, and identifying opportunities to grow the initiative.
- Attend division and site leadership meetings to facilitate feedback about culture gaps and co-develop solutions to make IDOC a better place to work.
- As needed, facilitate leadership, supervisory, and other trainings that support IDOC’s mission, vision, and values.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of management practices. Management practices include: Planning: determining organizational objectives and deciding how best to achieve them; Organizing: determining how to use resources, defining responsibilities and authority; Leading: influencing and motivating staff, delegating work and resolving conflict; Controlling: establishing standards and evaluating performance, taking corrective action and measuring result. This is typically gained by having completed two 3-credit or equivalent upper division college-level courses or approximately 40 hours or equivalent of management training that included all of the essential elements of management (Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling) OR the State/BSU sponsored center for Management Development Supervision I-IV or equivalent or IDOC Leadership 100 course; OR I have at least 6 months of experience performing all management elements.
- Some experience managing a major program and supervising staff. Typically gained from approximately one year of experience supervising staff to include defining responsibilities and expectations, assigning and reviewing work, conducting performance feedback, completing performance evaluations, and handling employee issues, corrective actions, and/or problem-solving procedures. Time served in an acting role where you were performing these supervisory functions is acceptable.
MQ Specialties:
- Some experience analyzing complex management issues and developing recommendations for improvement. This is typically gained by at least two years of work experience in which you had the responsibility of evaluating, managing, and improving program/project development and performance, which include goals, timelines, budgets and implementation strategies.
- Some experience supervising staff. This is typically gained by at least one-year work experience OR completion of IDOC’s Leadership 200 course.
- Some experience mentoring or coaching in a professional setting to help others navigate challenges and facilitate personal growth. Typically gained by at least one-year experience of providing constructive feedback, advice, and/or mentorship to individuals in a professional setting.
- Some experience delivering, preparing oral and written reports of study findings and recommendations. Typically gained by a year of experience where you were required to research, compile and organize information into oral and written reports and to groups in a business setting. Include the nature of the reports, the audience, topic, and how your findings were presented.
