The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Building Facilities Forman in the Administration Division.

This position involves physical tasks including lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bending, stooping, shoveling, and climbing ladders. Ideal candidates will be able to work effectively under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines, communicate clearly with supervisors, peers, contractors, and stakeholders, and proficiently use computers for maintaining and accessing records, creating reports, conducting research, and utilizing email.

Example of Duties

Maintenance of Agricultural Complex Buildings (50%)

• • Examine the interior and exterior of buildings for damage and initiate necessary repairs.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers and related systems to ensure functionality.
  • Maintain plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and related systems.
  • Repair appliances, plumbing fixtures, replace lights, ballasts, receptacles, and switches.
  • Build and repair wooden structures.
  • Set up and operate sound systems.
  • Inspect boilers and chillers for safe and efficient operation, performing repairs as necessary.
  • Inspect and lubricate fans, filters, and motors.
  • Repair roofs and perform routine vehicle maintenance.
  • Assess equipment life expectancy and replace as needed.
  • Meet with tenants, program directors, and maintenance staff to ensure the facility runs smoothly.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.

  Maintenance of Agricultural Complex Grounds (30%)

  • Ensure proper care of surrounding grounds and maintain sprinkler systems.
  • Oversee and participate in painting, remodeling, and building repairs.

  Oversight of Custodial Services (10%)

  • Supervise up to five part-time employees responsible for custodial maintenance of the Agricultural facility, including the main building, seed lab, and weights and measures.

  Administrative and Other Duties (10%)

  • Write maintenance reports and determine the needs for contracted services.
  • Negotiate with subcontractors to determine schedules, needs, and changes, ensuring compliance with contracts.
  • Estimate budgets, costs, and project future maintenance needs.
  • Plan layouts for staging and special events and manage setup and maintenance.

  Minimum Qualifications
  These qualifications are mandatory for applicants:

  • Considerable knowledge of building maintenance. Typically gained through at least one year of experience and training in commercial building maintenance, equipment technologies, and operating techniques.
  • Good knowledge of building codes. Typically met by a seminar or formal training in building code content and interpretation OR at least six months in a position where it may be determined that code interpretation was an integrated portion of the applicant's responsibility
  • Some knowledge of:

  · Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The ideal candidate must have at least six months of paid work experience maintaining and/or repairing HVAC systems in a commercial environment.

  • • Supervisory practices. The ideal candidate must have had a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices OR leadwork experience that required work direction, monitoring work, and creating work assignments (such experience on a fill-in basis is not qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more)
  • Experience in:

  Performing skilled repair and maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, building maintenance, and grounds maintenance. Typically gained through at least six months experience performing skilled carpentry and "rough-in" plumbing, electrical work, building maintenance and grounds-related work

  · Using specialized tools and equipment related to the trades mentioned.

  Maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports. Typically gained by one year’s work experience maintaining maintenance records and preparing related reports.

   

  · Estimating material needs and costs for various tasks and reading blueprints and specifications. The ideal candidate must have at least six months of work experience reading blueprints and estimating material needs and costs to be considered for this position

  • Valid driver’s license is required.

  Supplemental Information

  • Temporary appointments made through this announcement, after completing at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be considered for permanent appointment without further examination.
