The Idaho Bureau of Laboratories located in Boise is seeking a skilled individual to fill a full-time permanent position for Maintenance Craftsman Senior. This position is responsible for performing skilled trade duties in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and related facilities and systems. Incumbents may work in all weather conditions and move in and around confined spaces. This position is building maintenance oriented - not construction. It involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bending, stooping, shoveling, and climbing ladders.

This position is not eligible for telework.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Performs maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment
  • Maintains fire protection equipment
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all types of electrical equipment
  • Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures and pipes in accordance with existing plumbing codes
  • Builds and repairs shelving as needed
  • Prepares and paints surfaces
  • Maintains shop and shop equipment in good working order
  • Performs general, miscellaneous carpentry
  • Performs snow and ice removal from sidewalks and roadways

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.   • Good knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance; experience performing skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair; experience using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work. Typically gained by completion of formal training (such as in a vocational technical school) covering all the following skills OR at least two (2) years of professional work experience performing all the following skills: skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair and using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Some knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems maintenance. Typically gained by formal training/education specific to HVAC systems OR approximately 6 months of (supervised) professional work experience performing routine HVAC maintenance. Performing limited HVAC maintenance on an occasional basis or home maintenance is not qualifying. Experience must have been gained in a professional work capacity and must have been a primary responsibility of your job.
  • Some knowledge of building codes. Typically gained by completion of formal training such as in a vocational technical school OR two years of work experience.
  • Experience reading blueprints and schematics. Typically gained by completion of formal training such as in vocational technical school OR at least two years of work experience.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver's license (Class D or above).
