State of Idaho - Department of Administration Opportunity

Are you an experienced leader looking for an opportunity to serve the great state of Idaho? The Department of Administration is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative-minded individual to serve as Deputy Administrator of the Division of Public Works (DPW). This role requires a dynamic leader capable of overseeing multiple program areas, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering a culture of excellence.

We serve Idaho by promoting responsible government through expert customer support.

Example of Duties:

  • Leadership and Supervision:
    • Direct and supervise DPW program areas, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
    • Provide oversight and guidance to DPW Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Determine and prioritize strategic goals that impact employees, stakeholders, and budgetary components.
    • Monitor progress relative to department strategic plans and recommend actions necessary to ensure the achievement of strategic planning goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Interact with and provide reporting to key stakeholders, engaging in discussions that impact policy within the DPW and could lead to legislative impacts.
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration with various agencies, contractors, and the public to ensure project success.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of DPW projects, ensuring compliance with state and local building codes and regulations.
    • Manage contracts, budgets, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.

Good Knowledge of:

  • Construction Contract Administration:
    • In-depth understanding of construction contract administration and project management principles.
  • Building Codes and Regulations:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of state and local building codes, including the International Building Code, electrical, plumbing, fire, life-safety codes, and ADA guidelines.
  • Facilities Maintenance:
    • Expertise in facilities maintenance, ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of state-owned buildings.
  • Supervisory Skills:
    • Proven experience in supervising staff, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.

Desirable Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing construction requirements for commercial buildings
  • Demonstrated expertise in formulating detailed construction requirements and specifications for various types of commercial buildings, including office buildings, educational institutions, correctional and healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure.
  • Ability to assess project needs and translate them into comprehensive construction plans that ensure functionality, safety, and compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in collaborating with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to develop innovative and sustainable construction solutions that meet project goals and budget constraints.
  • Experience Preparing Architectural or Engineering Plans:
    • Proven experience in preparing, reviewing, and approving architectural or engineering plans.
  • Experience in Facility Maintenance:
    • Extensive knowledge of facility maintenance practices, including preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
    • Ability to manage maintenance teams, coordinate with contractors, and oversee maintenance activities to ensure effective resolution of issues.
  • Experience in demonstrating ability to lead and manage a diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in analyzing management and program problems, identifying alternatives, and recommending and implementing solutions.
  • Proficiency in preparing and making presentations to groups, effectively communicating complex information to a variety of audiences.
