The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is hiring a Mechanic to join our Fleet program, located in Nampa, Idaho. IDFG Fleet program is a dynamic, centralized program serving most of Fish and Game’s transportation needs, from light duty trucks and sedans to UTV and motorcycles. This exciting position will be a key member of the Fleet team and will report directly to the Fleet Manager. This position could be a perfect career opportunity for you to put your mechanical knowledge to work for the sportsmen of Idaho at IDFG.

The incumbent will be responsible for installing the wiring on the Department’s custom enforcement trucks, including new installs, breaking down retired vehicle equipment and conducting minor repairs on vehicles housed at the Fleet warehouse. The ideal candidate will be an experienced mechanic with knowledge of diagnostic, maintenance, and repair techniques for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.

General Information:

• The incumbent for this position works around heavy equipment, toxic fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel and solvents, and high voltage up to 80,000 volts. With or without reasonable accommodations, this position requires strenuous work and lifting and carrying objects weighing approximately 80 pounds and hearing and eyesight acuity to detect engine noises, read gauges, and detect metal fractures.

• Diagnose, install, and uninstall a variety of electrical and electronic systems used on enforcement vehicles.
• Diagnose and provide minor repair and/or service on a variety of equipment and vehicles used within the agency.
• Maintain records of repairs, parts orders, and related information and documentation using word processing and spreadsheet computer programs.
• Coordinate other repairs with local vendors, such as vehicle maintenance shops, glass repair vendors, and other state agencies.
• Provide quality control on vehicle intake, including preparing vehicles for auction.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required)

• Good knowledge of safety precautions and procedures relating to mechanical equipment and repair shops. (Typically gained by at least one year of training or at least one year of work experience with safety precautions and procedures relating to mechanical equipment and repair shops.)
• Good knowledge of the use, care, and disposal of hazardous automotive material and waste. (Typically gained by at least one year of training or at least one year of experience with the use, care, and disposal of hazardous automotive material and waste.)
• Experience diagnosing and repairing gasoline and/or diesel automotive and construction type equipment. (Typically gained by at least four years of work experience diagnosing and repairing diesel and/or gasoline automotive and construction type equipment.)
• Experience using mechanics' tools and related specialized equipment to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of engines and related drive train, electrical, and hydraulic systems (Typically gained by at least one year of work experience using mechanics tools and related specialized equipment to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of engines and related drive train, electrical, and hydraulic systems.)
• Experience preparing records and reports. (Typically gained by at least one year of work experience preparing records and reports related to mechanic work.)
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electronic and computer-controlled motor vehicle systems (Typically gained by at least one year of work experience diagnosing and repairing electronic and computer-controlled monture vehicle systems.)
• Experience reading and interpreting technical service manuals. (Typically gained by at least one year of work experience reading and interpreting technical service manuals.)
• Valid driver's license.
  

Along with the minimum qualifications, the preferred candidate will possess experience in welding and fabricating specialized vehicular devices, as well as hold a forklift certification. Competency in various Microsoft applications is also desired, along with experience using personal computers to input, retrieve, and update data for maintaining repair records.
