Central District Health (CDH) is currently recruiting for a seasoned Communications and Marketing Manager with strategic vision to join our team promoting public health throughout our district. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading internal and external communications in a professional, non-partisan manner. This position will also lead our marketing and public outreach efforts to promote our services throughout CDH’s four counties. This position is key member of our leadership team and reports to the District Director.

Typical Duties:

  • Message Development and Assessment: Monitors and evaluates agency information and public relations and marketing efforts for value and cost-effectiveness; assesses public reaction to management policy and program decisions; consults with and advises management on media, publication, and public relations matters; may prepare department position statements; develops, provides, or directs in-service information and public relations training; hires and oversees the work of consultants and vendors such as graphic designers, advertising agencies and photographers; coordinates development and use of displays and exhibits; supervises communications staff;
  • Internal Communications: Maintains and reinforces representation of CDH brand through document audits, creation of templates for staff use, and approval processes. Maintains and curates content for internal website (intranet) to increase internal communication, foster positive workplace culture. Oversees, reviews, and updates policies and procedures specific to CDH communications. Works on special projects as assigned and works to achieve strategic plan goals and initiatives within agency’s strategic plan;
  • Public Relations and Information/Media Interface: Cultivate community relations to improve visibility and awareness of the Health District and its services. Make public presentations; coordinate or provide media interviews, write talking points for agency subject matter experts; serve as the department spokesperson on current public health events/topics; and represent the department at meetings, conferences, and relevant outreach venues. Effectively communicate messages about health risks, especially in the event of a public health threat or emergency;
  • Program Management/Supervision: Supervise communications team and oversee agency marketing plan and communications budget;
  • Web and Social Media Assessment: Monitor, update and evaluate effectiveness of District Website and Social Media outreach efforts in meeting the needs of the community and disseminating information;
  • Writing/Editing: Produce or edit content for a variety of audiences and health literacy levels; produce or edit publications such as handbooks, brochures, or newsletters utilizing in-house resources or contracted vendors. Write or edit materials for release to the media on behalf of the Health District.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Planning, developing, and implementing major communication projects;
  • Developing and making oral presentations to groups;
  • Interpreting and translating technical or specialized material into information usable by the public;
  • Producing or editing informational material using electronic word processing;
  • Gathering and preparing general interest news or writing a variety of news releases that were published or broadcast in mass media for the general public;
  • Developing, writing, and producing informational material for mass distribution and specialized audiences;
  • Overseeing contractors/vendors or supervising staff in producing publications.

Good knowledge of:

  • Organization, structure, and ethics of electronic or print news media.

Some knowledge of: 

  • Audiovisual production (to include video productions); 
  • Slide shows or computer-generated graphics related to public information objectives.
