Tax Commission Career Opportunity

The Idaho State Tax Commission is seeking a Technical Records Specialist 2 to assist in the registration and processing of Idaho tax records. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is familiar with solving problems, gathering information and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations then explaining them to others within the office environment. Training related to processing tax returns is available on the job.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a lead worker and subject matter expert for miscellaneous income tax.
  • Establish daily workload priority and processing guidance
  • Gather information, make decisions, and respond to inquiries
  • Utilize independent judgement and discretion as to the methods, policies, and procedures used to complete assignments
  • Conduct involved searches, which may require accessing and selecting multiple information sources or contact with taxpayers, vendors, or outside sources to obtain information
  • Perform specialized support work that involves immediate knowledge of the program
  • Review, evaluate, correct, and process records, payments, and/or documents
  • Interpret or determine compliance with tax rules, regulations, statutes, and/or program policies and procedures
  • Interpret, explain requirements, processes, and procedures to others, internal and external
  • Access, maintain, and update manual and/or computerized records systems and develop reports
  • May make and receive phone calls to and from taxpayers.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Experience monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors 
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs 
  • Experience analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues 
  • Experience dealing with individuals from varying cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experience in stressful situations entering and retrieving data using a computerized record system composing and proofreading business correspondence
