The Idaho State Board of Education (Board) is established in the Idaho Constitution for the “general supervision of the state educational institutions and public school system.” State law charges the Board with the general supervision, governance and control of public schools and postsecondary institutions, including community colleges. The Board is comprised of eight members: seven appointed by the Governor, as well as the statewide elected superintendent of public instruction. The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is charged with providing professional staff support to the Board and implementing the Board’s policies, programs, and initiatives.

Summary: Idaho State University is offering an Internal Audit & Advisory Services Student Internship. This is a part-time, temporary position with a maximum of 15 hours per week from October 2024 to May 2025. Responsibilities in this role include direct supervision and performing portions of individual internal audit projects as assigned and supervised by an Internal Audit Manager. 

The work of this position provides multiple on-the-job training experiences including: 

  • Interviewing internal audit clients to understand systems, processes and controls in the clients’ areas of responsibility. 
  • Documenting the results of interviews and preparing work paper documentation of systems, processes and controls. 
  • Performing walk-throughs of areas with clients to fully understand and verify processes and internal controls. 
  • Evaluating internal controls for adequacy. 
  • Testing internal controls for effectiveness. 
  • Downloading data from university financial systems in connection with an audit area. 
  • Analyzing and testing data for trends and/or potential issues. 
  • Assisting in developing observations and recommendations related to internal audit procedures. 
  • Meeting with clients to review and discuss observations and recommendations. 
  • Participating in department staff meetings. 
  • Keeping track of and reporting time spent on projects in comparison to budget. 

Qualifications

  • To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in the institution where this program is offered, including enrollment in curriculum such as: 
    Accounting program at Idaho State University; either a MAcc student or an undergraduate accounting major in their junior or senior year, or, University of Idaho College of Business and Economics majoring in accounting, finance, or management information systems.
  • Students must be juniors, seniors, or graduates.
