The Idaho State Tax Commission is seeking a skilled Financial Specialist, Senior to join our Management Services team. The position is in the Boise Office in the Chinden Campus, 11321 West Chinden Blvd, Bldg. 2.
Example of Responsibilities:
- Use their seasoned professional background to develop and maintain complex documents, review and handle difficult financial operations.
- Design, modify and implement financial - related systems or play a significant role in their development.
- Audit financial data for completeness and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Process, review, reconcile, and report tax revenues.
- Analyze, research, and maintain financial data, develop financial documents, and resolve reporting problems to allocate and distribute tax revenues.
- Test and troubleshoot automated system changes, including using data extraction tools and methods for analysis, sampling, testing, and reporting.
- Use exceptional critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills in daily work activities.
- Apply a strong background in information technology to analyze, research, and maintain financial data, develop financial data, develop financial documents, and resolve problems.
- Senior Financial Specialists analyze technical financial problems and provide provide professional assistance and advice concerning their solutions.
- Prepare and make complex journal entries, allocation of costs across several funds impacting their funding status, assisting in or independently researching and analyzing underlying data for errors and correcting them, and creating published financial statements.
- Collaborate with executive management in day-to-day operations of the fiscal and investment departments.
- Modify and maintain the accounting system to ensure its integrity and reliability.
- Assists or takes a lead role in the design, development, testing and implementation of new accounting processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. (Typically gained by at least four years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR successful completion of an associate degree in accounting AND at least two years of professional work experience as an accountant or equivalent.)
- Experience developing and preparing financial documents.
- Experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze, and report on financial data.
- Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
- Expertise in Excel. Typically gained by a minimum of 3 years practical application.
- Independent problem-solving abilities: Typically demonstrated through proactive identification and resolution of gaps in financial policies and systems, proposing and implementing improvements, effectively triaging system issues, and staying updated on regulatory changes and best practices to enhance system efficiency and compliance.
