Summary:
The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. Pre-Sentence Investigators work directly with felony criminal defendants, their victims, families, friends, and employers. Responsibilities involve conducting fact-finding interviews and investigations of a criminal defendant's background, recording those facts in a pre-sentence report, and submitting this report to the court for proper sentencing of the defendant. These reports must be comprehensive and accurate in every detail because of their potential bearing on a defendant's sentence. PSIs work closely with the courts and the recommendations made have a direct impact on the defendant's life and family.
