The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is currently seeking a full-time Health Program Specialist to work with medical providers enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. The position is located in Boise and requires significant travel within Idaho to conduct compliance reviews, quality improvement visits, and immunization training.

Successful candidates must be able to work autonomously and within teams while gaining extensive knowledge of immunization program policies and procedures, including but not limited to vaccine ordering, distribution, storage and handling, and reporting. Candidates must also display reliability, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, a high level of professionalism, and an exceptional ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Conducts VFC compliance, Unannounced Storage & Handling, and Enrollment site visits with private and public immunization providers as assigned and maintains all data and reports from these visits.
• Uses critical thinking skills to develop strategies to increase the efficiency of the immunization delivery system by reducing barriers to immunization and streamlining vaccine management.
• Conducts immunization training with enrolled healthcare providers.
• Prepares reports and presentations regarding quality assurance and improvement reviews and other program related issues.
• Provides clear and concise technical assistance to internal staff, public and private healthcare providers, volunteer organizations and the public about the state vaccine program.
• Assists with the development protocols, policies, and guidelines for conducting quality assurance and improvement reviews.
  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

• Some knowledge of public health practices. Typically gained by completion of college-level coursework relating to public health practices OR at least one year of professional level experience in a public health field.
• Some knowledge of survey methodology and statistical procedures used to collect, analyze, and interpret data. Typically gained by completion of at least one upper division college-level course in statistics OR at least one year of experience performing related work with a measured outcome.
• Experience managing projects. Typically gained by approximately one year of experience where you held the responsibility for all the various aspects of managing an entire project.

Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

1. Some knowledge of the federal Vaccines for Children Program. Typically gained by at least one year of related professional experience.
2. Some knowledge of immunization best practices. Typically gained by at least one year of related professional experience or completion of at least one related, upper-level college course.
3. Clinical experience in a medical provider office that delivers vaccines. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience in a medical provider’s office that delivers vaccines.
