The Research and Analysis Bureau at the Idaho Department of Labor has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Analyst. This position is located at the Central Office in Boise, Idaho. Duties will include telephone data collection, performing basic qualitative and quantitative research and will be involved with data preparation, preliminary data analysis and perform related work.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Refine survey sample by correcting addresses, researching contact names, email addresses and providing a reporting unit description for each sampled location.
• Collect data via telephone, email and survey forms.
• Identify erroneous or questionable data using established methods and procedures to ensure the quality of collected data.
• Code, enter and edit collected data manually or by computer upload to be used for program and labor market evaluation.
• Provide requested data in response to information requests. • Work with lead on survey research such as instrument development, sampling, data collection, data entry and analysis.

 Good knowledge of:

• Research methods.  Requires completion of two college-level statistical research methods courses (six semester credit hours or nine quarter credit hours) covering the elements of research methods and techniques including reliability and validity, measurement error, variance, methods of analysis, probability means, proportions and sampling; OR completion of one college-level statistical research methods course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) covering reliability and validity, measurement error and variance COUPLED WITH approximately one year of work experience gathering, sampling and analyzing data. Experience does not include work coupled with degree/school requirements ie: thesis. 
• Principles of statistics.   This requires completion of two upper division college-level statistics courses (six semester credit hours or nine quarter credit hours) covering: estimation and tests of hypotheses; sampling and multiple regression and correlation; analysis of variance and covariance; introduction to experimental design; and analysis of unbalanced data for the fixed model; OR completion of one upper division college-level statistics course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) covering estimation and tests of hypotheses and sampling and multiple regression and correlation COUPLED WITH approximately one year of work experience applying statistical techniques including sampling and surveying and measurements of dispersion. Experience does not include work coupled with degree/school requirements ie: thesis.

• Writing analytical (research) reports or materials.   This requires approximately one year of work experience analyzing data, drawing conclusions and writing reports or portions of reports supporting research results.
• Using statistical software or spreadsheet software to perform statistical analysis.    This requires completion of at least one college-level course (three semester credit hours or five quarter credit hours) using statistical software or spreadsheet software; OR approximately one year of work experience using statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, SPSSX, STATA, Number Cruncher or similar software or spreadsheet software.
