Summary:

Information Technology Services (ITS) currently has multiple openings for IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer III in our Chinden office in Boise. These positions develop and implement complex systems, storage, or networking infrastructure; including systems administration, installation, and maintenance; provide leadership in the design, enhancement, implementation, and consultation on complex enterprise network, server or storage infrastructure; perform related work.

The selected individuals must possess an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of advanced server virtualization and storage (SAN) technologies and management practices in order to maintain 24/7/365 business operations. These positions will administer, troubleshoot, upgrade, design and configure server and storage infrastructure and management systems at multiple locations.

Please note: The successful candidates will be required to pass multiple, comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks specific to the agencies ITS supports.

Example of duties:

  • Provides hands-on systems administration and management of advanced enterprise class server and storage infrastructure in support of a diverse customer base on a 24/7/365 basis; 
  • Provides direct customer support for problem resolution and escalation; 
  • Conducts complete diagnosis of most technology problems, factoring in an understanding of the technical architecture; 
  • Participates in design, and contributes to technical insights and ideas; 
  • Anticipates implementation obstacles and develops plans to address them; 
  • Analyzes cross-technology and cross-platform issues; 
  • Provides input into the technology plan for the organization and ensures that plans are integrated effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure; 
  • May provide consulting services to project teams on areas of expertise;
  • Some positions will be members of the project delivery team and collaborate with customers, vendors, and cross teams to implement enterprise solutions;
  • Supports multiple projects concurrently, including new projects or projects related to current processes;
  • Coordinates the hands-on work needed to achieve project objectives in the field;
  • Set up meetings, present information, order supplies and equipment;
  • Anticipate potential project risks and reports to the project manager;
  • Ensures the project is complying with policies, standards, and guidelines;
  • Technical writing to develop user manuals and IT support documentation;
  • Designs and implements test and release to production plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities.
    Typically gained by a bachelor's degree directly related to information technology OR at least four years of work experience in information technology. Education and experience must be within the last five years.
  • Experience planning, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting server, storage or network systems.
    Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience where planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server, storage or network systems was part of the primary job responsibilities.
  • Resolving server or network problems.
    Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience (within the last five years) where resolving network or server problems was part of the primary responsibilities.
  • Working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment.
    Typically gained by at least four years of full-time work experience where interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment was part of the primary responsibilities.
  • Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting server, storage or network systems.
    Typically gained by at least four years of full-time job experience where work as a technical lead implementing or supporting server, storage or network systems was part of the primary job responsibilities.
