Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections

The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections is recruiting for a full-time HVAC Specialist to fill a current vacancy in our St. Anthony facility. This position will perform journey-level installation, and maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Responsibilities:
1. HVAC:

  • Analyzes, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC installations, fire and boiler alarm and surveillance control systems (high and low pressure). 
  • Defines and implements preventive maintenance programs for motors, steam condensate return traps, pumps, controls, compressors, auxiliary heating and cooling systems, and related devices. 
  • Compiles reports for changes to the HVAC system which includes reporting costs, estimating values, and justifying changes. 
  • Reviews work of contractors' new and remodel construction for compliance to specifications and compatibility with existing HVAC systems. 
  • Maintains air distribution and balance systems and heat exchange equipment. 
  • Adds chemicals and analyzes water treatment for chill water and heating systems. 
  • Plans and installs auxiliary control systems Lights off, shuts down, and operates boilers. 
  • Prepares system for winter carry-over and cold weather conditions. 
  • Calibrates pipe and vent sizes and BTUs required for installations May design and install sheet metal Installs/inspects thermostats, and electrical wiring of furnaces, unit heaters, and cooling units.
  • Reviews new designs and concepts of HVAC systems Operates microprocessor fan control and fire alarm systems Programs computerized energy management equipment. 

 2. Other Duties As Assigned: 

  • Tests/maintains emergency electrical equipment such as generators and battery operated lighting Inspects and maintains specialized items such as clothes washers, dishwashers, coolers, freezers, ice machines, and domestic refrigerators.
  • Runs wire, installs outlet boxes, repairs switches and light fixtures. 
  • Repairs broken pipes, fixes leaks, and cleans blocked pipes. 
  • Assists other maintenance and crafts staff performing their duties. 
  • Responds to emergency call-backs.


Minimum Qualifications: 

Experience: 

  • Charging, starting, and checking for proper operation of HVAC type equipment and related devices. 
  • Troubleshooting and repairing digital electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems Starting, stopping, and troubleshooting chiller operations and chilled water systems. 
  • Modifying and/or installing natural gas and water piping. 
  • Operating, maintaining, diagnosing problems, and repairing industrial type HVAC systems and control devices. 
  • Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal work Welding and repairing material and brazing pipe. 
  • Cutting, brazing and soldering high pressure refrigerant piping. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License.                     
  • Willingness to supervise and work directly with juveniles in a correctional setting.
  • Must meet federal PREA standards (Prison Rape Elimination Act).
