Currently, we have an opening for an IT Network Engineer III in our Meridian, Idaho office. This role is central to the development and maintenance of our networking infrastructure. Responsibilities include managing, installing, and maintaining our LAN, WAN, and SD-WAN networks, along with upgrading and configuring network systems.

The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge and experience in advanced networking technologies. Your skills will be vital for the seamless and efficient operation of our network systems, crucial for our 24/7/365 operations. You will play a significant role in enhancing our network capabilities, directly contributing to the mission of the Idaho State Police. 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and implementation of advanced network solutions in a LAN/WAN/SD-WAN environment, catering to the specific needs of the Idaho State Police.
  • Contribute to the management of complex network projects, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Provide high-level troubleshooting and technical support for critical network issues, assisting both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate, plan, and implement complex network systems with a focus on security, efficiency, and reliability improvements.
  • Assess and integrate new network technologies and products, enhancing system capabilities and resolving network problems.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to develop and implement effective network solutions that align with operational requirements.
  • Maintain and update comprehensive network documentation, including creating detailed diagrams and strategic plans for the Idaho State Police.
  • Engage in strategic network planning, contributing to discussions on capacity expansion, maintenance, and budget forecasting.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Considerable knowledge of current LAN, WAN or SD-WAN networks that support voice, data, video, and wireless client connections.
    Typically gained by a bachelor’s degree directly related to information technology OR at least four years of work experience with LAN, WAN or SD-WAN technologies in a medium to large business environment AND by possession of a professional vendor certification in router, switch, or SD-WAN technologies. Experience must be within the last two years. (Definitions: LAN = Local Area Network, WAN = Wide Area Network, SD-WAN = Software Defined Wide Area Network).
  • Experience planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networks across a wide range of network technologies; resolving network problems; working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for a wide variety of uses in a business and enterprise environment.
    Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience where planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networks across a wide range of network technologies, and supporting a large business network was part of your primary job responsibilities. Experience must be within the last two years.
  • Experience with Software Defined Networking (SD-WAN) or in both local and wide-area network management, administration, design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
    Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience where network management, administration, design, implementation and troubleshooting in a large LAN/WAN or SD-WAN environment supporting a large organization, was part of your primary job responsibilities. Experience must be within the last two years.
  • Experience with physical layer network topologies including experience in the design and implementation.
    Typically gained by at least four years of full-time work experience with physical layer network topologies including experience in the design and implementation of these topologies were part of their primary responsibilities. Experience must be within the last two years.
  • Experience with wireless network design, implementation, troubleshooting and management in large-scale wireless deployments.
    Typically gained by at least four years of full-time job experience in wireless network design, implementation, troubleshooting and management in large-scale wireless deployments. Experience must be within the last two years.
  • Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting network projects and support teams.
    Typically gained by at least four years of full-time job experience where you worked as a technical lead implementing or supporting network projects OR at least two years of experience supervising a network team as part of your primary job responsibilities. Experience must be within the last two years.

 Preferred Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of and hands-on experience with advanced networking technologies, including the design and management of complex LAN, WAN, and SD-WAN systems.

• Demonstrated ability to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot a variety of network devices, including routers, switches, and other related equipment.

• Proven experience in effectively managing and troubleshooting large-scale wireless network deployments.

• Expertise in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, and security.

• Familiarity with network security principles and practices, including experience in managing firewalls and implementing secure network protocols.

• Experience in network capacity planning, performance tuning, and network optimization techniques.

• Knowledge of network monitoring and diagnostic tools, with the ability to analyze and report on network health and performance.

• Experience with cloud-based network management solutions and technologies.

• Understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and VLANs, and their application in a large enterprise environment.

• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
