Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is seeking a Financial Specialist, Sr. at the Central Office. This position will be responsible for supervising financial technicians in accounts payables along with the accounting for the grants, which includes helping develop budgets and submissions for reimbursement from the Federal Government. This position will perform a full range of advanced professional financial duties requiring the application of accounting and/or auditing theory, principles, and practices and. This announcement may also be used to fill future vacancies in the Boise area.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain accounting systems, plan and review financial operation, and handle difficult or sensitive financial matters. 
  2. Research and analyze financial documents to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and accounting principles. 
  3. Design, modify, and implement financial-related accounting systems or have a significant role in their development. 
  4. Utilize current information technology to analyze, research, and maintain financial data, develop financial documents, and resolve problems. 
  5. Analyze technical financial problems and provide professional assistance and advice concerning their solutions to upper management and external stakeholders. 
  6. Oral presentations to stakeholder groups. 
  7. Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs. 
  8. Supervision of technical staff.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Typically gained by at least four years of professional work experience as a staff accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR at least 12 semester credits in Accounting, to include Intermediate Accounting I and II or equivalent.
  2. Experience developing and preparing financial documents. Typically gained by at least one year of full-time work experience.
  3. Experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze, and report on financial data. Typically gained by at least one year of work experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze and report on financial data as a regularly assigned job duty.
  4. Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action. Typically gained by at least one year of experience preparing routine and specialty analysis and recommending management action.
