This Idaho Department of Correction is recruiting for an Electronics Foreman at Idaho Correctional Institution - Orofino in Orofino, Idaho. This position will supervise and perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems and equipment; perform related work.
- Inspects, repairs, installs, and operates solid state and digital logic electronic systems and equipment including metal detection, perimeter surveillance, fence guard, intercom and public address systems, close-circuit security television and satellite systems for entertainment, telephone systems, computer hubs and cables, and fire alarm and door security systems.
- Performs minor repair and adjustments on temperature controls.
- Interfaces circuitry between old and new electronic systems.
- Designs and builds electronic circuits and systems; evaluates and advises management on planned purchases and the installation of electronic systems.
- Plans and schedules preventive maintenance on systems and devices.
- Ensures that hand and power tools are serviceable, properly checked out, maintained, and returned by inmates and staff.
- Maintains tools and tool box inventories.
- Hires and assigns work to inmates and evaluates performance.
- Provides on-the-job training in electronics to inmates.
- Assists in budget preparation for the electronics and tool room unit.
- Approves work orders and ensures their completion.
- Estimates jobs and recommends bids.
- Writes and updates specifications, regulations, and procedure manuals.
- Interprets and draws blueprints.
- Orders and maintains supply of electronic parts.
- Maintains custody of inmates.
- Conducts searches for weapons, tools, and contraband.
- Reviews and completes requests for tool repair.
- Determines cost benefit of purchase or rental of special tools.
- Licensed as a journeyman electrician in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 10, Idaho Code; OR possession of a Limited Energy Electrical License in accordance with IDAPA Rule 07.01.04.
- Good knowledge of PC and digital electronic logic systems used in security systems. Typically gained by 20 hours of training specifically addressing the aspects above AND at least one year of work experience performing related task. (Manufacturer certification in each, CCTV, PC/PLC security, or PABX systems) OR at least one year of work experience that would have given broad exposure to all aspects of the knowledge indicated.
- Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices or the elements of supervision; OR completion of a college-level personnel related course covering supervisory practices; OR lead work experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a period equivalent to a minimum of three months or more - they do not have to be consecutive months).
- Some knowledge of computer hardware, service-line installation, and maintenance. Typically gained by formal training in the installation and maintenance of service lines for computer hardware such as in a vocational school OR at least six months experience performing this type of work under the direction of a qualified journey-level person.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and performing solid-state and digital electronic maintenance and repair; designing and interfacing electronics circuitry. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience performing work directly related to this which included a variety of electronic maintenance and repair and has given the candidate a broad background in maintenance and repair; AND which also addressed the design and interface of circuitry.
